Our leaders, Our Problem!

May 23, 2009

When we were young, we were made to learn the national anthem and the pledge by heart. It was a daily ritual for all students to pledge their allegiance to their fatherland. We sang the anthem and  recited the pledge with great commitment and expectation, giving all to our nation with the hope of getting the best from her. Alas, the national anthem has become just any other song from any artist anywhere in the world. Our past heroes and heroines are no longer celebrated. The legacies they left behind have long been forgotten by the present day looters and robbers who parade themselves as our leaders. The silence of the wicked is louder than the cries of the just and upright in our society.

Our constitution, our bond! That was then…Now our constitution, our woe. The collective destiny of the Nigerian masses is determined by the edited version of our constitution. The juicy part of our law is for the rich and people in power. A nation where law enforcement agencies spend millions on regular basis to prosecute those who stole thousands. A nation where looted funds recovered from past leaders sorry looters is re-looted by those who recovered them. Of course justice is giving to the highest bidder. From the Presidency to the local government comes unhindered flow of aroma of corruption and fraud of the highest order. Most public officials have no values, no virtues, what they have is never a legacy to be followed by the younger generation. Federal senators participating in ballot stuffing, election rigging, killing, assassination, in this present age and time.

A nation with a President who tells lies at will. Since coming into power, he (Yar’adua) has lied about everything under the sun! From his health to administration. From his seven point agenda to declaration of emergency on power sector; from electoral reform to national integration; the list is countless. Another lie has been packaged by Yar’adua and will soon hit the market (Nigerians). The product is called Re-brand Nigeria. Once again, this man wants to work on our psyche. Giving us a false sense of belonging. The President of the most populous black race on earth is always found in the company of people with questionable characters. In yesteryear, no body would ever like to be identified with a petty thief but now the story is no longer the same. Even the “commander-in-thief” prefers to be seen with the likes of James (Bond) Ibori who stole billions as the “Execu-thief” governor of Delta State. Ibori’s past records show he is highly skilled when it comes to stealing as he had faced charges for stealing in the U.K and also in Abuja. Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are.

A visit to other countries of the world one will find the presence of Nigerians breaking grounds in their chosen professions. In the United States alone, there are thousands of seasoned medical doctors of Nigerian origin while in Nigeria our doctors have been reduced to ordinary ward attendants. Our Ivory towers are nothing but mere institutions where criminals (cultist) are unleashed unto the public in the name of graduation. Of course they get employed in the “Department of Special Duties” of Musa Yar’adua’s government, because their services are most needed during election or re-run election periods such as what the whole world witnessed recently in Ekiti State. The Ekiti debacle will never be forgotten in a jiffy. Resident Electoral Commissioner in that State confused everyone in the name of God. She claimed her Christian faith would not allow her to go against the wish of the people. Many thought by “people” she was referring to Ekiti people but by the time she finished announcing the re-run result, we all got to know that by “the people” she meant “PDP”. She knew Nigerians could be easily cajoled with religion so she introduced the religious joker and she caught the opposition off guard.

Yeah…I remember the orientation we got as children was to be loyal to our country but now you have to be loyal to your party “big boys”. The orientation of free education for all Nigerian children is now education for the children of the rich and mighty. The orientation of “your vote is your power” is now “your vote, your doom”. The orientation of “Arise o compatriot, Nigeria’s call, Obey” which the twenty-seven soldiers yielded to by risking their lives to make Nigeria proud in a peace keeping mission in Sudan, has sent them all to life imprisonment and the reason been that, they all had effrontery to ask for their rights. Looters are walking free while the looted are serving jail terms! They are all busy marrying wives and building political empires around their family members. Dr. “Olusola” Saraki (who will never accept he’s Yoruba but a northerner because of political power) succeeded in installing his son as the governor of Kwara state and his daughter a serving senator. Olusegun Obasanjo’s Iyabo from commissioner for/of health to a serving Senator. Umaru Musa Yar’adua’s daughter recently got married as the forth wife to Bauchi State governor while Zainab (also Yar’adua’ daughter) is the first lady and the third wife of Saidu Dakin-gari the Kebbi State Governor. Mr president is doing everything possible to make sure his children get political recognition for future purpose just as the case of Dr. Olusola Saraki and Olusegun Obasanbjo and many more.

In few days it would have taken Mr. President two full years studying the problem facing Nigeria and the same time frame has taken Governor Raji Fashola of Lagos State to transform Lagos State which is now the envy of other States in country. Even recently, PDP governor of Plateau state confessed Fashola is the best among all the state governors in Nigeria. What a shame!! All we hear PDP national looters shout is “we are the biggest political party in Africa” while there is ABSOLUTELY nothing to show for their claims. It’s glaring our President and his PDP have no agenda other than to impoverish the people the more and clinch on to power at all cost. Forward ever! Backward never! Might sound possible in other African countries such as Ghana but in Nigeria it has always been forward never, backward ever. In the 80s’ we had constant electricity but now we beg Cameroon for electricity supply; Years back we were the best as far as football is concerned but now it’s a great headache for FIFA to give a rating to our national team; Before, young graduates were sure of getting god jobs, but now the only place they get employed is at YAHOOZEE.COM; Way back then we had a vibrant agricultural sector but now the groundnut pyramids, cocoa , rubber plantations, abakaliki and ofada rice etc, all have giving way to massive importation. Dangote and Vaswani brothers are milking the poor masses dry as the rice imported by these companies is too expensive for people to afford. Rather than declare emergency on Power sector as promised by our directionless president, he’d declared emergency on the Ijaw people, killing innocent Niger-Daltans in the name of fighting militants. Armageddon has began in the same region the Vice-President has come from at the order of our Presido..!Those who said Yar’dua takes drug must have known him very well because if not, how could a man who announced amnesty for all militants in Niger-Delta in less than two weeks gave a directive to declare war on the same people?.It takes only a psycho to do such a thing and it won’t be a surprise if our President tests positive to psychiatric disorder.

On daily basis they are working on us. Designing plans on how to make us believe their lies about our country, Nigeria. They have used every weapon in their arsenals to give us a reorientation on what exactly is wrong with our country. It is clear that our problem is LEADERSHIP and no amount of oppression and suppression in the name of re-branding will ever change our stand. Leadership, good or bad is like smoke. No matter how you try to cover it from spreading, it will surely find its way out!

ALL NIGERIANS ARE ASKING FOR IS NOTHING BUT GOOD LEADERSHIP.

NIGERIA GOOD PEOPLE! CORRUPT LEADERS!
