What of capital punishment for executive assassins?

May 26, 2009

Dear Sir: As a matter of fact those required to be included in the capital punishment being canvassed are those hired (thugs) assassins; but they are the employees of some State Chief Executives who use them in harassing or eliminating their political opponents.

Therefore this question of placing death penalty on kidnappers alone is not the right thing to do. Some of the kidnappers may not necessarily be very hardened criminals but those lured into the business because of hardship coupled with the quest to copy the life-styles of those in power and leadership; whereas assassins are those employed mostly by this bunch of politicians to eliminate or intimidate their opponents.

I wonder why it has not occurred to people to drum up and draw the attention of the nation towards insisting that assassins, more than kidnappers, deserve the capital punishment being canvassed by some of the State governments. These set of Governors have refused to go to the root of the matters (some emanating from them) that gave rise to kidnapping business. To the governors who have gone in a hurry to enact such capital punishment in respect of the kidnappers (only) and leaving out their thugs (hired assassins) should do some amendments to the law if they are sincere. Those governors should search their consciences and cast their minds to their past and present continuous misdeeds against the nation. If they sincerely do, they will be the last to cast the biblical first stone.
