UPDATED: Ogun guber elections tribunal gave it to Gbenga Daniel

August 26, 2009

Image removed. The elections petition tribunal sitting in Ogun State, has  ruled in favor of incumbent governor, Gbenga Daniel, whose controversial election of April 2007 had led the court of appeal to order a retrial.  The ruling today may be the beginning of another bitter appeal by Chief Ibikunle Amosun of the ANPP.

The tribunal judgment today was not a surprise to many who knew all along that electoral justice can be painful and long but usually favors the highest bidder, or the incumbent.

Regardless of today's outcome, Gbenga Daniel's victory party won't last for too long as he faces a fractured party, a divided state assembly and a disillusioned electorate that has been at the receiving end of  his dictatorial and corruption-ridden governance style.

Last June, he was at the centre of a scandal in which members of the House of Assembly alleged that he had forced them to take a blood oath.
