ASUU suspends strike for two weeks-The Guardian

October 8, 2009

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its strike for a period of two weeks. The union's president, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie told a news conference on Friday in Owerri that the decision was in compliance with the agreement reached at the Governor Adams Oshiomhole-brokered meeting between ASUU and the Federal Government. He said he hoped that government would conclusively dialogue with the body for the growth of the sub-sector.

"In reference to Mr. President's intervention, the strike is hereby suspended for two weeks with effect from Friday, October 9 to enable a cordial atmosphere for the peaceful conclusion. The union expects that this gesture would accelerate the return of the Nigerian university system to normal activities and calendar," Awuzie said.
