CDA calls for investigation and expulsion of hon. Friday Onodjae from delta state house of assembly for forgery and other criminal charges

October 11, 2009

Members of The Conscience for Democratic Accountability (CDA), a non-governmental organization titillating the public conscience for general accountability of men in the public and or societal structure, have petitioned Hon. Friday Onodjae (AKA Onojae) for forgery and educational malpractices which makes him constitutionally unfit to be a member of the Delta State House of Assembly.

According to a petition addressed to the Honourable Speaker of the Delta state house of Assembly, Asaba signed by Godstime Umudjere (Esq) Chairman, Ughelli North Constituency 1 Chapter, the charges levied against him for not making him eligible for public office are, bribery and Corruption, deliberate falsification of names and academic qualifications and indictment by an administrative panel of enquiry.

Quoting the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Chapter V, Part 11c, Sections 106 – 111 stated clearly the qualifications for membership of a State House of Assembly.

Specifically, Section 107 (d) states that a person shall be unfit for membership of the house if “within a period of less than ten years before the date of an election to the House of Assembly, he has been convicted and sentenced for an offence involving dishonesty or he has been found guilty of a contravention of the Code of Conduct”

Section 107, Subsection (1) & (h) of the Constitution states that no person shall be qualified for election to a House of Assembly if he has been indicted for embezzlement or fraud by a Judicial Commission of Enquiry or an Administrative Panel of Inquiry or a Tribunal set up under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act, a Tribunals of Inquiry Law or any other law by the Federal and State Government which indictment has been accepted by the Federal or State Government, respectively;

Section 107 h(i) of the Constitution also states that no person shall be fit to be a member of a State House of Assembly if “he has presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission”.

The petition alleged that Hon. Friday Onodjae was investigated and indicted for fraud, acts of misconduct and breach of Matriculation Oath by an Administrative Panel -  “Students Disciplinary Committee” set up by the Senate of the Delta State University where Mr. Friday Onojae was a 200 Level student in the Department of Economics in the weekend degree programme of the 2003/2004 Academic Session.

The second accusation in the petitions read  Deliberate falsification of his name by sneaking in “d” into his original surname “ONOJAE” to now read “ONODJAE” with a view to covering his dirty old tracks and deceive unsuspecting Nigerians, especially the Independent National Electoral Commission, the State House of Assembly, and the General Public. Please let him show his Primary School Leaving Certificate, Testimonial and WAEC result from the Secondary School he attended, WAEC results from the Institute of Continuing Education, Benin-City, copies of his nomination form for his aspiration his Councillorship election to the Ughelli North Local Government Council.

And the third allegation is of  Bribery and Corruption: That Mr. Friday Onojae fraudulently bribed some officers of the Delta State University to manipulate his way back to continue the programme even after the University authorities had clearly directed that, following his expulsion, that “all examinations written prior to the expulsion are cancelled and that he was to hand over all University property in his possession including Identity Card to the Student Affairs Officer/Head of Department as applicable”. Today, he is parading the fake result (Certificate) he fraudulently obtained after he has been expelled.

The petition ended with a plea for the Speaker of  the Delta state house of Assembly to swing into action to tackle the criminal activities of Friday Onojae (AKA Onodjae) which poses harm to the political and social health of the state, otherwise they are left with no option but to seek a legal solution to stop his unscrupulous activities in Delta state.
