FIFA U17 Nigeria 2009:Of commentary and related issues

November 18, 2009

The FIFA U17 world cup has come and gone but there are many issues yet to be discussed. As a lover of the beautiful game and attended history and statistics generated from the game,I can say that listerning to some sport commentors especially that of Nigeria origins is not only pathetic but absolutely annoying.please,Kindly listen to my side of the story then you can make up your mind concerning what you heard during the competition.

Football is not only about the kicking and passing of the ball or only about the players but its also about what the commentators have to say about the players, history about the game and individual players, coaches etc.World over especially european league, commetary complements what you are watching and in fact,it add up to what you are watching. The manner and expression of actions on the field of play by some commentators makes the action even worthy of replay.

Commentators should also try as much as possible to be neutral so as not to incur the wrath of would-be listeners. It just make sense, because, commentary is to educate and not to show which team you are supporting.

Nigeria sport commentators fail in all this regard.I make bold to say that commentators from NTA are the worst culprit.thay make it sound as if you are hook to a radio and must repeat who passed to who.Any one waiting to hear about Statistics and history of the game/players is just wasting his time as far as a Nigerian commentator is onboard.

Another problem is when you are so sure a commentator is supporting a particular team.A Nigeria commentators will avoids comments on a glaring offside as long as it favours his/team.You will hear something like "I dont think its an offiside", "the referee has a better view".

I think our sport commentators should do a little bit more of research and probably find away to get data about players and much as possible.MIke Mayaki is one man I respects to much when it come to half time comments not commentary running.

I also think,Nigeria Football also has the problem of keeping players stats.I am not sure if NFF has records of exact number of goals Scored by Rasheed Yekini, Friday Elahofor, Nduka Ogbade etc for the national team.

I hope and believe that the NFF and sport writers/commentators will do something about this.
