Gov. Rotimi Amaechi’s associate, Charles Nsiegbe, assassinated in Port Harcourt

November 20, 2009

Image removed.A former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly,  Charles Nsigbe, has been killed in Port Harcourt.  He died earlier today at Teme Clinic in the city of gunshot wounds from unknown gunmen two nights ago. Before his gruesome murder, Mr. Nsiegbe, who represented the Port Harcourt 3 constituency under the Peter Odili regime was a loyal associate of the current governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi. Mr. Amaechi was the Speaker of the Rivers State Assembly during the Odili period.

Mr. Nsiegbe was a board member of the Rivers State Public Procurement Bureau.  His assassination is symptomatic of the political atmosphere in Nigeria prior to general elections. Political observers have already predicted a bloody 2010 in terms of politically-motivated assassinations in the country.  The Niger Delta region has just begun to settle down partially after a majority of its militants accepted a government “Amnesty” and began to negotiate with the federal government.
