2011....What your opinion!

November 22, 2009
With 2011 around the corner and the many political bantering taking place. One cannot but become active in creating awareness on the necessity for our elections to be free and fair. I believe the imperativeness for a free and fair election in Nigeria cannot be over-emphasized especially at this point in time. It is obvious that the leaders we had/have, constantly live in a self created illusion that we are the Giant of Africa, with epileptic power supply, bad roads, decaying academic structures, a rising rate of unemployment/civil unrest etc. The purpose of this article, is not to demean the leadership before the lead, but to alert the lead's political senses on the urgency of voting for a focused leader in the coming election. The whole concept of national and political leadership (or any other leadership), is setting the interest of the nation/group as the paramount National agenda and in doing this the leader has to be empathic, in order to understand the issues affecting the lead and the nation in general. I believe what we need in Nigeria at this moment is honest leadership, and a precondition for honest leadership in the words of Singapore lee kuan yew is that "candidates must not need large sum of money to get elected or it will trigger off a cycle of corruption" similar to what we find ourselves in today . It is no more news that our nation treasury has expended on faceless projects, and the common masses still suffer from lack of basic amenities. While the masses children stay at home because of the ASUU strike, the leaders children school in IVY leagues colleges around the world. It is an outright disgrace on the yaradua government that nothing! Nothing I repeat has been achieved from him being in office. And he plans on running for a second term. I am so tired of hearing 7 point agenda, vision 2020, and so on….Talk is cheap, but this government has made talk cheaper and Action so expensive!! It is a general saying that to whom much is given, much is expected. How long are we going to expect much from an inactive government? How long are we going to make the JMG and MIKANO generators a necessity? How long are we going to watch the Niger-Delta situation degenerate? How long are we going to watch our leaders negotiate with terrorist in the name of amnesty? How long I ask? It is about time we begin preparation to bid the yaradua government Good bye, and vote for a credible candidate with proven public or private track records. We must come together as Nigerians, shunning all ethnic sentiments , demographic divides and economic gaps and say a Big no to bad governance.
