A Letter From My Heart To Nuhu Ribadu

December 10, 2009
Your energy combats the myth of apathy of our generation. You have endured so much sacrifice for the nation that one can’t help but to imagine if there was any Nigerian more deserving to steer the nation. I congratulate you on your achievements. Mallam, there is a struggle going on, it’s not happening here in the western World where we find solace. It’s happening far away in Nigeria. It’s a struggle unprecedented in our recent history. It’s a struggle not between the rich and the poor. It’s a struggle between Good and Bad, Right and Wrong, Playing and Spectating. It’s a struggle that awakens our basic sense of morality. It remains a stain on our collective conscience if we chose to be blinded by the comfort we enjoy to this struggle. We can not have a thriving Political class while the masses suffer. That’s certainly not the way progress is achieved. That’s the way progress is surrendered. Nigeria can’t refresh her damaging reputation and claim her spot in the global circle by tongue-whipping the beneficiaries of ill status quo while they are watched enjoy the positions to defend the Indefensible and deny the calamity that stares at us. We can not hope for the occasional editorial flash of your ideals nor the unprecedented media service Sahara reporters offer to salvage the nation. That is wishful thinking. Project Nigeria remains a hopeless one with such disposition. I am highly conscious that again and again, you have reaffirmed your disinterest in politics. However, I do believe that there is another tradition of politics which you share its values. A brand of politics that stretched back to the days of the country’s founding. The era of Tafawa Balewa, Zik and Awolowo. A tradition based on one simple premise, that we have a stake in each other and my joy ought not be built on your sorrow. A tradition that is powered by the belief that what binds us together as a nation is more powerful than what sets us apart. That’s the tradition of politics that calls you from the status of hibernation and confers on you the badge of a politican. My observation is not based on an ignorance of the firestorm of propaganda and persecution you have been subjected to. Its rather based on my knowledge that such antics of political immaturity is an inevitable price tag for a man with the lofty dream to displace thousands of executives with invested interest in our sickness as nation. I believe you can offer that chance for us to see the desired change millions of faceless Nigerians clamor for. Regardless of your inadequacies, No sincere Nigerian can doubt your love and concern for the common man on the street. No genuine Nigerian would deny your scarce ability to step in the shoes of the helpless man on the street and see through his eyes. Its from the millions of these beneficiaries of your sense of empathy the legitimacy to build a Change movement would be obtained. From the man that wakes up under the bridge and does not know where his next meal would come from, from the mother that choke back tears while watch her son die because she could not afford a decent healthcare, from the young girl that opt out of school and take to the streets simply because she has to fend for her younger ones in a jobless society, from the fresh graduates that parade the street for months scouting for a job that does not exist, from the “lucky” graduates that settle for jobs with less pay and little sleep, from the uneducated youth that has been handed out a life-time career as a political thug by those positioned to define his destiny, from the aging veteran that has found a home at the premise of the Pension commission waiting for his entitlements that might never be paid. I deeply believe you have in you the skill and of an architect that can build the best political team in the history of African politics. A political team unstoppable by the hijackers of our destiny and fuelled by young and vibrant minds. A political team driven not by ethnic champions nor supposed executive prisoners but credible national heroes. A political team funded by our shared interest. A Shared Interest based on Self reliance, Individual Liberty and National Unity. These values are the properties of an unbeatable “Mega Party”. A mega party that could convert fear to courage; doubt to hope ; cynicism to confidence. . A mega party that would be confronted with a heavy set back in its formation by the political spin masters who has held the nation hostage. A mega party that would not only overcome these predictable obstacles but outlast the strain.Nigerians desperately await such a party that would not only restore prosperity but reclaim the Nigeria promise. If you feel the same contagious energy that I do, If you feel the same infective passion that I do, then a new dawn of leadership is at hand in Nigeria only if you are willing to accept the challenge bequeathed upon you by your credibility.
