The state of the nation

January 6, 2010

We are back to the same old story, THE PRESIDENT SPOKE WITH THE FIRST 3 PUBLIC OFFICIALS IN NIGERIA"   We all know he did not speak with any one. This is some loopy idea that entered the minds of the leadership of the PDP, their handlers and all those who will be foolish enough to believe this new yarn they are spinning. Unfortunately, they reduced the time frame for such phantom calls. from 30 minutes to 5 minutes. If indeed, this man was able to speak with his deputy, then why did he not or why has he not found the sense in speaking  to the Nation. That on its own will also be doubtful since it is now possible to transpose other peoples physiology on others. That is the beauty and mischief of the computer and its various software.

I will not be able to resist analyzing President Yar'dua's medical condition. He was rushed to Saudi Arabia for pericarditis, as per his doctor's diagnosis. Rumors had it he was unconscious on departure, his spokesman said he complained of excruciating left sided chest pain and the whole nine yards. One thing we are certain about is that the man has been in the INTENSIVE CARE UNIT OF A HOSPITAL for over 40 days!

One thing certain is that the longer a patient stays in ICU, the poorer his prognosis. An average ICU stay is between 7-14 days at most except in bad cases such as we are witnessing. Two reputable Nigerian doctors who are cardiac specialists have confirmed same. Except, he had a case of pericardial tamponade, the man has no business staying in ICU for so long. pericarditis is managed by a minor procedure, heavy doses of anti biotic's and the patient is discharged home.

In the case of our own disappearing president, he probably went in for coronary artery bypass surgery hence his extended ICU stay. The question then becomes, does he have abnormal left ventricular hypertrophy, or problems with his pump time?In that case the prognosis is very poor. His history with auto immune disease, CSS, and in his own case advanced form of it will subject him to multiple organ failure. Such patients have high mortality rate. Previous aggressive treatment of his auto immune disease especially with steroids will make him liable to septic shock, another outcome of extended ICU stay, Because his CSS he  has the co morbidity of congenital heart failure, respiratory arrest, septic shock, post op mechanical ventilation( the reason why he cannot and did not speak to anybody, as in he is mute?) airway difficulty, increased COPD, pulmonary disease.

As said earlier, because of the previous aggressive management of his CSS, the concomitant diseases or what is generally referred to as therapy assisted complication will set in. He will be mechanically ventilated, he is likely to have pneumonia, he may even have tracheotomy secondary to prolonged intubation, he may be receiving continuous venous hemofiltration as a result of unstable hemodynamics, he will be having dialysis as a result of renal damage. He may have thrombocytopenia, lung compromise and with  age >50years , are all predictive of high mortality in patients with extended ICU stay. yar'dua is not an excpetion.

I suppose we all see why the crazy talk of he spoke with Dimeji, Mark and Jonathan are nothing but crazy. He did not speak with any one. He is mechanically ventilated, and so he is unable to talk. As confirmed  by others who are more senior in this profession, the man is gulping incredible amount of money in the ICU and his family's unrealistic expectation of his miraculous come back is a burden to the Saudi doctors. that is why they are unable to produce his medical papers for us to see.  And may we remind Mr. Andoaakaa, that the president is not entitled to any privacy because , as he too acknowledged at his inauguration he is our SERVANT. We are his employers and so we are entitled to his papers. If he was a  regular Joe Blow, none of us will bother this much.

While these fools are concocting dubious  stories of his recovery, Nigeria dropped further on the global index rating. We are now classified as a rogue state, a terror sponsoring state.  The Nero of Nigeria is hiding out in a hospital while Nigeria is on fire. I am not even sure the man knows what is going on since he is suspected to be in a vegetative state. We need to be fair to him. he has no clue one of our own chose to be the messenger of death, he did not know his signature was forged in Oluwole on a budget, he did not know some other wild eyed kid attempted to do a Dele Giwa operation in Lagos, he did not know that  President Obama wanted to speak to him and he could not reach any one.

We need to get Ovie kokori to come and bail us out of this dilemma. We need to shut Nigeria down and blockade the National Assembly, to hold hostage these clowns until they get off and out of our lives. One could not but be amused when the  National Assembly issued threats and ultimatum  to the United States. Where was David Mark and the rest of them when Northern Nigeria borders represent  an open gate for all sorts of people from North Africa with strange ideas and strange  interpretation of Islam? How did Boko haram happen to us? why did they not issue ultimatum to former governor Yerima and even this Yardua fellow when they violated the constitution of Nigeria and declared a different type of law for Northern Nigeria. After all Norther Nigeria is not soley Islamic and same thing for the South. Whatever happened to freedom of worship?

How many of these clowns raking now,  openly condemned the mass murder of Christians and Ibos in the North? How many of them spoke up on behalf of the lady who was sentenced to death for  adultery while the man walked free. How many of them condemned the amputation of the limb of the fellow who stole a goat while Yerima looted the treasury of Zamfara  state.  It is strange that these clowns found their voices when they were put on stop list and had their visas revoked.  If they think Nigeria is such a strategic ally to the USA or that America cannot do without our oil, than I will say their illiteracy and ignorance is worse than we thought. Oil is in Ghana and along the coast of West Africa. These people may not see us as such important nation after  all. Should they be justifying madness at this point? Who in his right senses did not know it will get to this point. Anyway, I hope America will go further and seize all their assets in North America and Europe. Their children too should be sent back home. No wonder Bankole's wife is hiding out in Ghana. You wonder why she is not in Nigeria to have her babies.

Children are not born with hatred or bigotry. they inherit it. If the Abdul Mutaalab bloke had not seen the extremism of Islam in Nigeria in the form of Boko haram  and the annual ritual of setting on non Moslems, he would not have fallen for the strange ideas that will earn him a life time in jail. Besides, is his case not a case of poetic justice? Let the truth be told, it is these clowns who are now vibrating that looted the funds meant for the education of all to send their own  children to schools overseas.

It is these children who have suffered cultural, social and emotional dislocation that have turned out to be terrorists. If the boy was in Nigeria,(in our own schools,   in the radar screen of both parents, he may not have become a terrorist. If only the jailers of Nigeria did not loot all the funds meant for our schools, then we will have good schools and good health facilities to cater for the poor and the rich)., then there will be no need for him to go to school in England at tax payers expense, there will be no need for bankole's wife to run to Ghana every time for child birth. There are periods in a child's life that he needs the emotional comfort of parents especially mothers. It is when such children are lonely and confused that they fall prey to the big brothers in Al Queda who pretend to care for them while preparing them for evil acts. We have seen it in Abdulmutallab.

It is because the jailers of Nigeria are still holding us hostage, stealing our commonwealth, leaving our schools, our health system to be comatose, and tragically in the hands of a comatose leader, that is why we will continue to slide further in the  comity of nations. We will not come back until we take Nigeria from the hands of Yar'dua and his crew. We thought we reached rock bottom under Abacha, this yar'dua's case takes the cake.
