Dr. Hong and the Burden of a Thieving Dad

January 12, 2010

Emerging facts in the recent past indicate that since November 2009 to date, things have not worked out in the best interest of the Hon. Minister of State (Health) Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong. This is because when he visited his adopted home town Hong in Hong LGA on December 24, 2009 to celebrate the public holiday marking last year’s Christmas, the news that spoiled that yuletide for the young man, was the arrest and subsequent detention of his father in police cell Alhaji Idi Washman by the Divisional Police Station in the area for theft.

According to checks from the police in the area, the minister’s dad was arrested on 19/12/09 in the town for stealing some second hand cloth materials in Hong market. In the process, he was arrested and manhandled by some youths who were at the scene of the incident. On hearing the report some prominent people in the town rushed to the scene to save the life of the minister’s father from the angry youth before he was taken to the police station by the complainants for further interrogation.

Alh. Idi Washman is currently on bail, and he is billed for prosecution in Court in the area. Perhaps the only cheering news oozing out from the area is the directive given to the Council Chairman by the Minister Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong to immediately place his father on a monthly stipend of N50, 000 =00 aimed to stop the old man from continuing with the embarrassing act. This allowance is aside the alleged N10 Million monthly settlement deducted from the Council’s Federal Allocation for the Minister’s perceived effort to impose the current leadership in Hong LGA.

The poor image is coming on the heels of an earlier N300 million mansion procured and paid in cash by Dr. Hong in the FCT last November 2009. Originally owned by ‘Pearl and Diamond  Properties Limited.’, the property is queenly located on plot 10.331 Cadastral Zone Bas Utako District, Jabi, Abuja. To be precise, the controversial house is at the edge of a road on 1,736.22 Hectares. The property is currently located on YBO Sodeinde Street, Opp. Doxa Plaza, Utako in the FCT.

According to reports, the itchy finger Minister who took from his dad, helped himself to a fund donated by a foreign organization for the eradication  of polio in the 19 Northern States sometime last year.

While the burgeoning cloud of controversy is still hanging on the Minister of State (Health), he is also enmeshed in a war of words with his District Head in the village.

According to credible sources, Dr. Hong and the District Head in question have been the best of friends in the past, especially when he (the minister) was hibernating in the village with nothing tangible to keep body and soul together. Infact it has been discussed in hush tones in Hong town that, the Minister’s father who had criminal cases of stealing in the past, was to be executed in the 90’s by “Operation Aradu” operatives constituted by the then state government, but for the kind intervention of the current District Head, whom he has now made to be his arch enemy. This singular act brought the duo together until Dr. Hong’s recent elevation in 2007.

The no love lost relationship between the duo worsen last year, when the Minister went to plead with Gov. Murtala Nyako to assist him and remove the District Head of Hong from office for personal reasons. The information filtered into ears of the District Head in addition to an earlier rivalry between them with regard to the replacement of the former Chief Imam of the Central Mosque in Hong town, who happen to be the right hand man of the Minister.

The aforementioned controversies had no doubt reduced the political sagacity and maturity of the Minister, most especially now that he has started to oil his political machine ahead of the contest for Dougirei Government House, Yola come 2012.

The question on the hips of many of his supporters in Adamawa is: How safe would their official resources be kept by the would- be governor, while himself and the father are in a contest of helping themselves to things that are not theirs?
