Haba my name is Yar’adua and this is Nigeria

March 2, 2010
Fellow Nigerians, my name is Umaru Yar’Adua, the President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I am indeed still the President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is so notwithstanding the illegality of the National Assembly in purporting to declare my Vice President, Goodluck Jonathan, acting President. Of course I showed clearly on the arrival of my body into Nigeria, who indeed commanded the armed forces of Nigeria. I am digressing. I have to come back to the reason for this missive to my fellow Nigerians.

I must thank all of you for your prayers and support to Turai and me during these past months when I had to be quickly evacuated to Saudi Arabia for medical attention. I am sure you must understand why I had to go to Saudi Arabia for medical care. There is no single hospital in Nigeria with the requisite facilities to attend to my ill health. My predecessors in office made sure of that. I did not want to waste our scarce resources in equipping and refurbishing our hospitals as those of us in government can afford to be flown abroad to treat cough and common cold. As for the rest of you fellow Nigerians, you must remember that our lives are in God’s hands so you do not need to bother so much about the state of the hospitals. God gives and takes life.

Whilst I was in hospital in Saudi Arabia I learnt that a lot of you were agitated over the issue of my not transmitting a letter to the National Assembly that would enable my Vice President to take office as acting President. I am really disappointed in those of you who took this position. My Attorney General and Chief Law Officer, Mr. Aandoaka, SAN had rightly told you that I could rule Nigeria from just about anywhere, even from outer space. After all I signed a budget from Saudi Arabia, which is being implemented.

Fellow Nigerians, you see how wicked people can be. I was not even out of the country for up to six months and my Vice President had started to scheme to become President. He had to make a deal with the Governor’s on funds sharing once they facilitated his becoming acting President. I should have known better. I was just told after this his treachery that he had set up his former boss, DSP Alayamesigha, so as to take over as Governor. Any way this will not work as my government believes in the rule of law. The resolution passed by the National Assembly is null and void, as I never transmitted a written declaration of any sort to the National Assembly.

Fellow Nigerians, you can see how foolish and idiotic the National Assembly is. They want to reward my kind gesture of addressing the professional agitators amongst you through the BBC, with equating my interview with a written declaration. Haba David Mark and Dimeji Bankole, you should know better. Thinking about it now, I should not have bothered to talk to any media house. After all you did not vote for me neither did I really solicit for your votes. How many times did you see me on the campaign trail. Baba Iyabo installed me as the President. So if I have to owe any allegiance it should be to Baba.

But Baba too has been having diarrhoea of the mouth, saying that I should resign. I should leave him for now as I am sure he was only doing a political double speak.
Fellow Nigerians, just look at the treachery by my Vice President. Immediately he was illegally pronounced acting President, the first thing he did was to remove my Attorney General. Where is Jonathan’s loyalty. My Attorney General was my most trusted aide. With him in place, all my rogue friends like will be assured that they will not be successfully tried in Nigeria for their looting of the various treasuries of their states. He will also ensure that no Nigerian fugitive is successfully tried outside Nigeria.

Fellow Nigerians, I heard that a lot of you have been insisting that I should address the nation, at least to physically show myself since I was crated back from Saudi Arabia. I wonder why the agitations for me to present myself like an offering to the people. I am not going to do that. Anyone who has seen Turai has seen me. After all by virtue of marriage one plus one equals one. Turai and I are one. Period.

We seem to have very short memories in this country. After all, in the days of Abacha, how many times did we see him? Yet no one complained. Now it is my turn and everyone has become a professional agitator. I imagined that after the passing of Chief Gani Fawehinmi, that such agitation would be a thing of the past. Anyway let me remind you all if you do not know, that there is very little difference between Abacha’s regime and mine. The major difference is that Abacha was a soldier and made no pretences of democracy when he took power, whilst I am a civilian and pretending to be heading a democratic government.

What is happening with and to me is very interesting. I am waiting patiently for all those unfaithful servants of mine that I appointed ministers to finish showing their hands. Imagine people I brought from obscurity to come and chop suddenly supporting Jonathan to become acting President. The first of them that I will sack in due time is that opportunist that calls herself Prof. Dora Akunyili.

Fellow Nigerians, you better get used to Madam Turai because henceforth no one can come to me except through her. I pledge to faithfully serve Nigeria through Turai. And there is nothing wrong with it. As for my Vice President, if he does not like it, he should resign. For the rest of you, if you feel offended in any way, you can do an Andrew and leave us alone in peace here in Nigeria. You may follow your British and American paymasters to their country. I will not miss any of you.

But come my people; am I on this side or on the other side as I write to you? Only Turai knows.
