NDLF convenes Nigeria Peoples’ Parliament in New York

March 5, 2010
The Nigeria Democratic Liberty Forum (NDLF) will next Saturday, March 13, convene the "Nigeria Peoples Parliament" to reflect on a variety of issues affecting their nation.  And it will have in attendance, among many other important Nigerians, Nuhu Ribadu, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Concerned that public officials who swore to uphold the constitution have often breached that trust, the NDLF said the event would “demonstrate to Nigerian public officials how the business of the people should be conducted.”

In a press statement, the New York based body said it hopes to emerge from the event, which will take place at the La Guardia Marriot Hotel in East Elmurst at noon, with “a path to address the litany of problems confronting Nigeria.”
The parliament will assume standard parliamentary procedures, including an open format in which Members of Parliament (MP) would deliberate on the issues before them within a specified time frame.  Its Speaker will be Professor Okey Ndibe; other officials will be elected at the start of the session.
