Ibori's London Trial: Bad Day For Former PA, Bimpe Pogoson

April 22, 2010

As James Ibori, the embattled former governor of Delta State flees from law enforcement agents in Nigeria after being declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the trial of his associates in London seems to be feeling the reverberations.

Yesterday, at the Southwark Crown Court, signs that some associates of the fugitive Oghara chief are beginning to crumble surfaced when his former Personal Assistant, Adebimpe Pogoson, was cross-examined by the prosecution.  Our reports said that Mrs. Pogoson had a very bad day.

On account of that experience, it was not clear if Ibori's mistress, Udoamaka Okoronkwo, would be giving evidence.  Asked by Judge Christopher Hardy at the hearing yesterday if his client will testify, her counsel refused to say. Ibori's sister, Christine Ibie-Ibori, had already declined to testify in the trial.

Pogoson is calling some character witnesses today and then a further application will be made regarding other witnesses who are struggling to get to the UK from Nigeria due to flight cancellations arising from last week's volcanic eruption in Iceland.
