In a swift retraction issued within the past hour, Mr. Ojougboh stated that he was not authorized by Mr. Jonathan to say he will run.

In the interview, which was published by 234NEXT, the presidential aide said, “Mr President is a PDP president and he is a member of PDP, and Mr President will run under the PDP,”

In the retraction, Dr. Ojougboh said, "For the avoidance of doubt, I said the President can run if he so decides and that it will be unfair to ask him not to run."

He noted that what he had said was only in the exercise of his entitlement to express himself.
