What our past leaders accepted and swept under the carpet under the pretence of ‘One Nigeria’ in the past is now the demon we are battling with today. If those acts of embezzlement in the past had been seriously condemned and culprits made examples, I am sure we would not be where we are today as a Nation. Painfully the same story is repeating itself today; we now have people that are meant to be charged with treasonable felony occupying important position in our public offices.
A governor in the South-South region the other day was found with £2 million cash in his suitcase while the General hospital in his state capital lacked the essential amenities to save lives, if people died in that state due to lack of these amenities, I would say they were killed indirectly by the Government whose CEO is the Governor and according to our Constitution, that is a capital offence (directly or indirectly) and I think it should be judged as such. There are so many issues that would make every Nigerian want to run out of the country, from the table I attached, lets compare what type of country we are in with a few of other countries of the world. The amount of money wasted within the eight years of Obasanjo administration on PHCN (NEPA) alone will afford this country two of Dubai International airport with $600 million left, this wastage is still on and we are still counting. I do not want to start listing all the atrocities of these leaders, every Nigerian know exactly what the problem of this country is – CORRUPT LEADERS. If only we realize that this current strategy of everyone trying to steal what will be enough or even more than enough for themselves when they get to a position of power will not solve our problem then we are half way done. Until we all come together and make some drastic sacrifices, we are not going to achieve much. We should stop celebrating these thieves among us, Oghara youth needs to know that some individual had mortgaged their future hence they need not die for such individual.
These people only give back to them crumbles of bread that is rightfully theirs. We need to go back to those days where only people that acquired their wealth through honourable means are celebrated. The youth of this nation must rise to this challenge, let us all say no to this high ended stealing of both our present and future leaders, we have no other place we can call home but Nigeria.
