A session of the House of Representatives degenerated into an all-free brawl-fest the same day the students came on an excursion at the National Assembly.
The stunned and shocked students watched the scene of disgrace by members of the House.

However, Bankole told the students that the incident was unfortunate and regrettable, laying the blame at the feet of the suspended lawmakers whom he accused of flagrant disobedience of the rules of the House. He stated that his supporters in the legislature were left with no option than to treat the opposition members the way they were handled.

The floor of the House was turned into the boxing ring when some members tried to introduce a motion calling for the impeachment of Mr. Bankole over several allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

Bankole is accused of squandering N9 billion in contracts awarded without due process.

Saharareporters has also reported that the speaker received a large chunk of a N500 million slush fund that resulted from over-inflated contracts for cars supplied to the lower house. The bribe was routed through the account of the deputy speaker, Usman Bayero Nafada. Apart from Bankole and Nafada, numerous principal officers of the House of Representatives received cuts from the bribe.

A source within the Presidency and another in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission told Saharareporters that “President” Goodluck Jonathan was sitting on the final report produced by the EFCC on the scandal. The report indicts Mr. Bankole and his accomplices.
