Four members of the Action Congress and a member of the Alliance For Democracy in Ekiti State had approached the court to challenge  Governor Segun Oni as he bragged that his tenure had been extended by virtue of a partial supplementary election ordered by the elections tribunal in the state.

Four members of the Action Congress and a member of the Alliance For Democracy in Ekiti State had approached the court to challenge  Governor Segun Oni as he bragged that his tenure had been extended by virtue of a partial supplementary election ordered by the elections tribunal in the state.

The elections took place in 63 wards our of the 176 wards in Ekiti state. But hope of tenure extension  by Mr. Oni has been effectively dashed by the  judgement given by Justice Alagoa in Jos where he was transferred after all the arguments had been concluded.

By this ruling, all  "re-elected" governors in  Kogi, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Kebbi and Sokoto states by implication are not entitled to a single day's extension of their tenure.

The lawyer to the plaintiffs, Chief Anthony Adeniyi, told Saharareporters that they canvassed that the governor of Ekiti should not be allowed to benefit from the fraudulent elections that kept him in power against the wishes of Ekiti people, stating that he was satisfied with the immediate impact of the judgement as it pertains to Ekiti state.

He said, however, he would like to seek further interpretation by way of a cross-appeal to ensure that the judgement applies to other states in similar circumstances.
