Attention: CBN Governor-Nigerian Banks And Their Outsourcing 419 Strategies

August 5, 2010

I want to draw the attention of the CBN Governor to the activities of Banks on the issue of “contract staff” in Nigeria banks.  If the Senators, Reps. Ministries of Labour, and the NLC are not responsive to the plight of Nigerian youths who are unjustly subjected to slavery in their own country because of unemployment problems in Nigeria, then the CBN should take appropriate actions about this issue. The restructuring exercise in the banking industry will not be completed if this is not checked.

Directors of banks are using this means to enrich themselves at the detriment of Nigeria Youths. The idea is; they don’t want to employ anybody except University graduate; in that case, B.sc holders should be employed to be their drivers, securities, tellers and do other jobs. In simple terms, they are looking for cheap labour, therefore, they need more money to their pocket and as a result, establishing some ridiculous outsourcing companies with some invisible directors. As a matter of fact, these categories of staff are vital to the organization, but they don’t want to be fully committed to them, is that not slavery?  We all know that they gain a lot of money indirectly from these set of staff, because on each of them we know how much they shake down from this so call outsourcing companies “robbing peter to pay Paul”.  History will judge all of you.

We all know that so many of you rose from messenger to directors of banks.

Now the opportunity is no more available for our youths just because they don’t have B.sc. Some even discriminate among levels of B.sc holders; some will insist on GPA 2.1, some banks even employ B.sc holders as "contract staff",  so that their income cannot increase and that they will have no benefits.

What is kind of country is this?  No effective regulations, checks and balances of these banks. If not for the intervention of the CBN, so many banks directors are living like “Banks” on their own. All the banks, name it: Zenith, Afribank, Oceanic, Bank PHB, Diamond, UBA, First Bank, Fin Bank, GT Bank, etc.,  are guilty of this.

Everybody cannot be a university graduate, people need to work and have good future not the bleak future these country offers. Allow people to develop  themselves by exhibiting their natural endowment, so many have been restrained because of their employment status.

This country will continue to witness different dimensions of economic crisis, crime and instability if these excesses are not checked. A lot of youths are suffering as a result of the greediness and diabolical attitudes of bank directors.

The highlight of my epistle is that the issue of contract staff in banks is not relevant. Whoever is useful to the organization should be employed by the Bank. We should not encourage cheating; motivate people towards prospect and good future. What positive impact have you made, upon all policy of “I don’t want to employ HND or B.Sc - 2.2 graduate” is it not the same old story of liquidation, merger, acquisition, fraud and all sort of unprofessional activities.  No direction!!!  You don’t want to employ them but you can collect their money for business and even deny them when needed.  People should be more sensitized and fight against these menace in our society;  it is nonsensical!

A ‘contract staff’ in one of these banks was responsible for the promotion of all the professional staff in a branch recently because of his deposit position. Well, because this guy is a contract staff, he was denied. So many other cases like this have been experienced.

This policy on contract staff is another approach for corruption among bank’s directors and MDs.

Enough is enough!! stop playing games with the destiny of our youths.
