Mr. Ndibe, who teaches at Trinity College and Brown University, told Sahararepotrers that a Nigerian immigration official told him he could not travel without reporting to the State Security Services.

Mr. Ndibe reportedly protested that he had been assured by the SSS director in Lagos that he would never be harassed anymore by Nigerian security agents.

Once Ndibe reported at the SSS office, the official said he should be allowed to leave but   he nearly missed his flight.

There was a national and international uproar when Ndibe was detained on January 8 by the SSS which temporarily confiscated his Nigerian and American passports.
