February 13, 2011

The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has alerted Lagosians and indeed other Nigerians of the plan by the PDP to foment trouble in Lagos under the guise of holding a presidential rally. The party says that the top echelon of the PDP has perfected plans to import thugs from Oyo and some other states to cause trouble in Lagos during its presidential campaign rallies on March 1st and that President Jonathan wants to stay three days in Lagos during which imported thugs will be used to cause mayhem and violence in Lagos.

In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Joe Igbokwe, the party warns PDP that it risks sparking up the kind of social upheaval that is presently taking place in North Africa should it think it would be allowed to run roughshod over others on its way to an undeserved mandate in April. It therefore warns Lagosians to be on alert and prevent plunging the state unto social anarchy just to satisfy the bestial interests of the PDP.

“By now, every Nigerian should be aware of the fact that the PDP does not believe in fairness and equity and as such, can go to any length to foment crisis for its selfish benefits. We note that such orchestrated scheming has already started when President Goodluck Jonathan, frustrated at how the PDP has been trounced in the South West and with fear that such rejection awaits him in April, threw decorum to the dogs by using careless and reckless adjective to describe our party in the South west. We know that was a precursor to launching war on the South West in an effort to dislocate the peace of the region to pave way for a PDP that thrives in anarchy, confusion and fear as a way to gain undue advantage in a race that should be free and fair.

“Lagos ACN notes the bloodshed and violence that trail PDP presidential rallies all over the country presently foretells a bloody election period ahead, which is being programmed to create another impasse the PDP hopes to cash on and extend its stolen mandate to the detriment of Nigerians. We believe it was such extensive plan that spawned the reckless and unguarded statement Jonathan made in Ibadan and it is in furtherance of such evil plan that Lagos is being targeted for invasion by thugs and hired urchins from Oyo State who are being commissioned to unleash mayhem on Lagos and destabilize the state to create a leeway for the PDP.

“We have reports that the PDP, fearing that the reckless statement of President Jonathan will certainly spur reactions from Lagosians during his presidential rally in Lagos, is bent on sponsoring hoodlums to cause chaos in Lagos and create the grounds for its destabilization and the compromising of the excellent peace and tranquility that reign in Lagos presently. With his campaign rallies being dispersed in Lafia, walked out on in Kaduna and turning bloody in Port Harcourt, there is no doubt that the desperate bid of President Jonathan for continuity is being threatened and in that desperation, his team is latching on any straw for survival. Destabilizing Lagos and gaining an undeserved foothold seems so attractive for a party that does not believe in ideas and performance as basis for acceptability. For a party that believes in adopting crude and foul tactic to access power, we are not under any illusion that the PDP will do anything to gain political advantage.

“Lagos ACN wants to strongly warn the PDP that it will never be allowed to import violence in Lagos. We want to warn them that they risk provoking a social uprising should they think they can import thugs into Lagos for the purpose of causing violence and mayhem. We want to let them know that we are at alert and will do everything to protect Lagosians from the rampaging locusts and we advice them to shelve the idea or risk total resistance that might go beyond Lagos once it starts. We want to let the PDP know that Nigerians have endured them and their excesses so much that we might find it hard restraining Nigerians again should they think they can muscle every other person to steal power. We want them to know that Lagosians and the Lagos State government are ready for them and would fight them with the last ounce of our blood to resist such act of impunity.”
