A few days before the commencement of the voters registration exercise, His Excellency; Governor Fashola of Lagos State invited Traditional rulers, Civil Societies, Community leaders and Youth/Student leaders to an awareness programme tagged REGISTER TO VOTE.

Also in attendance was the Lagos State INEC Resident Commissioner; Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola who was a guest speaker. I participated at the programme as I fall in the last category.

After the registration commenced with its many flaws and delayed start in different areas, I was part of the COALITION FOR BETTER NIGERIA team that put up a rally to call for extension of the voter registration period. We protested at the Office of the Lagos State Governor where Governor Fashola received in person our letter and promised to relay it to President Goodluck Jonathan. We also extended the peaceful protest to the INEC HQ Lagos where we dropped a letter to be delivered to INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega.

All these my previous activities have been in resonance with the collective resolve of Nigerian youths to ensure the 2011 election is not business as usual.

On Thursday, 17th February, 2011, I observed with great shock when confirming my name at the display of registered voters at my Yaba Mainland constituency that non-Nigerians as known to me (some I can identify as from Mali) were registered as Nigerians. I immediately copied the VIN number of one of them and rushed to INEC HQ Lagos to call the attention of the Commission. After so much explanation to security after security I was given audience by the second in command (as I was told) in the person of Mr. M.A.Y Umar the Administrative Secretary of the Commission. He told me that I had to fill a certain form at the polling centre where I made my observation. Also he told me that I should be ready to tender my allegation to the face of the person I was reporting as it was an allegation that required the two of us appearing before the commission. The last statement sounded to me like some form of threat or attempt to scare me but certainly if that was the intention he had certainly misjudged me. I am baffled that perhaps if I desired confidentiality the Commission could not assure me of that. Initially, I did this quietly not wanting any attention but with the body language of the commission I believe I must also change approach. If I need to face the alien to accuse him, then I can as well announce it to all Nigerians.

I immediately returned to the polling centre and requested for the form the Admin Sec. asked me to fill but it was unavailable. I returned the next day and I was given another form to fill the names and VIN numbers of the aliens (a copy of the form I filled is below). Incidentally the right form I needed was still not provided (a sample of the right form is below). I am very sure that the first five listed are from Mali/Niger and I strongly suspect the sixth person listed is part of them.
              Name of Alien                                                       VIN No
1.    Audu, Ibrahim                                                 90F5B153A1296489953
2.    Isa, Ibrahim                                                     90F5B153A1296746726
3.    Baza, Ibrahim                                                  90F5B153A1296917687
4.    Abubakar, Habubu                                          90F5B153A1296918812
5.    Abubakar, Hassan                                           90F5B153A1296918000
6.    *Bonhamni, Hassan                                        90F5B153A1296825792

I have taken up the matter with the INEC Electoral Officer at the Yaba Local Government but I am of the resolve that Nigerians need to know what is going on.

If the aliens get wind of this overwhelming evidence against them and escape to their country, the blame would be for the Admin Sec to bear. Afterall, I expected that upon receipt of my tip off he would have notified the Nigerian Police Force for investigation.
It is important I state that this step I have taken implies that I am exposing myself to danger as these persons are known to me and I am also known to them. It is general knowledge that a desperate man is capable of doing many things. However, I refuse to be intimated or cowed by anybody as I once again accuse the INEC Lagos Admin. Sec. of handling a critical matter like this with levity.

I use this medium to call the attention of the Federal Government, Lagos State Government, all Civil Society leaders, Youth leaders and Students leaders across Nigeria to join me in ensuring that those that have broken our law face the music of their action.

This is also a warning to all persons or group(s) of persons planning to rig the election that 2011 would not be business as usual.

Below is the evidence I have obtained.
