Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State was in a fatal auto accident today in the state as he traveled in convoy to join president Goodluck Jonathan in an election campaign. His aide-de-camp, Aminu Ibrahim, died in the crash while the governor himself sustained bruises on his arm.

It is as yet unclear if there were other fatal casualties in the incident but a source told SaharaReporters that other aides of the Governor who were injured in the auto accident were taken to the hospital.
The governor's convoy had crashed into an oncoming commercial bus that had maneuvered its way out of large crater on the Katsina-Daura road around 9:00 AM Nigerian time.
Governor Shema did make it to the airport to receive President Jonathan, who will be campaigning in Daura, the home town of his rival, Retired General Muhammad Buhari of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

Shema has come under fire at home for supporting Jonathan for re-election as president.
