Dare-Devil Armed Robbers Raid Ado-Ekiti Bank

Ekiti State capital, Ado-Ekiti, this morning suffered an armed robbery assault in which two innocent civilians were killed.  Eyewitness accounts said armed bandits, numbering about 27, in arrived in the business area of the town around 8:25am in a Hummer jeep and an 18-seater bus.

Witnesses the robbers calmly alighted from their vehicles and raided the branch of First Bank of Nigeria (FBN), carting away an undisclosed amount of money.

The State Police Command Anti-Crime squad arrived and tried to engage the robbers in a shoot-out but was overpowered by the superior firepower of the robbers.  In the exchange, stray bullets killed innocent civilians as they tried to hide.   The robbers successfully escaped the state capital by the Ado-Afao Road.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Jimoh, later confirmed the incident to newsmen at a news briefing in his office, confirming that two people had died in the incident.  Several others received injuries.

At the time of writing this report normalcy seemed to have been restored in Ado-Ekiti, but the police are continuing their investigations and patrolling the city.
