A total of 520 persons were killed in the violence that followed the outcome of the presidential election, which saw President Goodluck Jonathan as the winner.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Rimgim gave this figure during a review of the 2011 general elections, which was organised by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, Abuja.

Ringim also said that 77 persons were injured in Kaduna State while twenty-two thousand persons (22,000) were displaced as a result of the mayhem.
Ringim, who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7 Headquarters, Mr. Felix Ogbaudu, said, “One hundred and fifty-seven churches, forty-six mosques and one thousand four hundred and thirty-five houses were burnt.

“Four hundred and thirty-seven vehicles, two hundred and nineteen motor-cycles were also burnt. Forty five properties belonging to the police were also burnt.”
