Few days after MEND threatened to resume hostilities against Niger Delta oil installations, unidentified gunmen have targeted ExxonMobil oil fields in  Akwa Ibom state kidnapping a an Exxonmobil staff.

A technician at the Qua Iboe Oil Export Terminal operated by ExxonMobilwas Thursday  abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Eket.

SaharaReporters gathered that Mr Anietie Johnson was kidnapped near his Eket residence in Okon community in Akwa Ibom.

SaharaReporters sources at ExxonMobil’s Qua Iboe oil fields said ExxonMobil has characteristically abandoned the kidnapped local oil worker to his fate.

The Oil giant noted for placing more premium on its expatriate workers reportedly said that the kidnapped staff was not "technically" its employee.

It will be recalled that the oil firm maintained a similar stance when the Principal of its Staff School in Eket Akwa Ibom was abducted last year.

His abductors who followed the unsuspecting victim to his abode overpowered him and drove him away in his car.

A relative of the victim confirmed that the family had reported the incident to Akwa Ibom Police Command but were yet to get a clue as to the whereabouts of Mr. Johnson.

The son of the victim said  that the kidnappers had established contact with the family by telephone.

“They called us on phone and assured us that nothing will happen to him if we cooperated and paid  the sum of N10 million and my daddy does not have  that kind of money” Johnson Jnr lamented.
