School officials have ordered the suspension of studies at the University of Maiduguri after consideration of the rapidly deteriorating security situation.
The official notice did not mention the radical Islamist group Boko Haram but it was obviously linked to the increase in Boko Haram-linked killings and the growing threat of a civil war by the group which opposes Western ideology.
Also, Sahara Reporter sources inform that a letter from Boko Haram to school officials is demanding that the school shut down by a specific date or face consequences. Studies on the campus are suspended with effect from Tuesday the 12th of July.
The University letter circulated to students followed an emergency meeting held by the Committee of Provost, Deans and Directors (CPDD).
SaharaReporters has also learnt that Boko Haram issued threats to staff and students at UNIMAID and the University Teaching Hospital in the city.
