Obasanjo Visit, Has Resulted In The Death Of Mohammed Yusuf’s In-Law

September 18, 2011

The former president Olusegun Obansajo visit to Maidugurri last week on 15th September 2011 attracts a lot of criticism in the nation, He was seen in Maiduguri without any official Protocol, then left for a meeting with some religious leaders at the Shehu’s palace before proceeding to late Baba Fugu house. So many questions were raised on why he singled out a visit to Yusufiya’s family without specified and vivid objectives.

I was as well wondering if his visit was constitutional or not. Obviously, OBJ was known with peace making process some years ago, he was at many African’s countries to initiate peace and calm down the war targeted to fuel Crisis, but the issue was different in Maiduguri. My question is, who sent him and why he was there?

Whatever the intension of the former president, the man he visited was shoot death two days after his peace mission. Babakura Fuggu (Mohammed Yusuf In-law) was gun down by people who are yet to be identified, which was clouded  as a result of conversation he had with OBJ. or else a 45 years old man could have leave longer than unexpected gun shoot. That is my opinion anyway, but the questions we keep on asking is, what role does the  constitution of Nigerian play in respect to this kind of event, does it mean a former president has right to travel around and fold his opinion on every angle of the country without any sanction? Shall we say his visit was approved by Jonathan Goodluck? One began to wonder the link between the head of state and the former head of state.

The same Obasanjo was pressing forward about TAMBUWAL to step down as Speaker of the House, which is still charging up to bring up the Idea any moment. It was not long ago when they addressed themselves as fools with IBB. Now finally he came to Maiduguri and coursed premature death to Mohammed Yusuf In-law. The former leader reportedly told them that part of his mission was to find a way of acting as a medium between the authorities and the family towards tackling the securing menace posed by the sect. Unfortunately after his departure and massage of peace, it blast up with another attach.

I was expecting the police Authority to address the issue but could not say anything about the visit or the killing. Let us assumed the case is still under investigation, but what happens to the masses on the aftermath of the crisis is the big subject now. In my candid opinion, the federal government was very slow in addressing issue. What happens to a committee that was inaugurated by president to summit their report? It just went up like air without any direction to back on. Or was it part of the recommendation to send the former president to visit Yusufiya family? Is high time we measure our mode of approach to security in the country or else sometime we do more harm than good.
