MEND Promises Hell At Abuja Independence Celebration, Offers “First and Final Warning” to Public

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has warned Nigerians to stay away from Abuja’s Eagle Square, the venue of the nation’s 2011 independence anniversary celebrations, on October 1.

In a terse public statement, the Movement said darkly it intended to “place bombs within and in the immediate vicinity of Eagle Square.”

In what seems to be an effort to pre-empt a lavish government party, it observed that after 51 years of independence, Nigerians have nothing to celebrate.

“The general public is strongly advised to consider this as a first and final warning,” the statement said.
