CPC: No! Not El-Rufai But Pastor Tunde Bakare

November 14, 2011

El-Rufai has so many drags upon himself. Dating back to when he served in former president Obaasanjo’s inglorious regime. Mr Rufai would drag any association he socialises with, in the mud. CPC would shoot itself on its forehead nominating Mr Rufai as presidential flag bearer for 2015.

There’s an ongoing debate by CPC people whether for Buhari to run again in 2015 – or to prop up other candidates from amongst its rank and file to be the ‘face’ of future CPC.

Personally, as a Buhari fanatic and lover of modesty, I’d have no problems if he vies again in 2015. As some CPC members are proposing and wishing for. The general should reconsider his personal ban to withdraw from active politics. Nigeria needs leaders who are socio-centrically free from corruption and lowlife.

Having Buhari contest 2011 election helped to raise the bar however. His vying had shaken the hell out of PDP each time his name is on the ballot. He gave OBJ the political fight of his life. President Jonathan feared for his life and so. He had to up the rigging hustle and manual of 2011 presidential election. The scare of Buhari hasn’t abated Jonathan yet. As he has been trying at all cost, to curry favour with, befriend and convert Buhari. But Buhari would’ve nothing to do with political infidels. Jonathan had lately flirtingly courted Buhari saying that. He is in support of fuel subsidy removal. But, with a swift reaction, the general had distanced himself from the heartbroken suitor and political flirt from Aso Rock.

In the absence of Buhari, conventional wisdom favours Pastor Tunde Bakare as the person to be empowered as next presidential candidate of CPC. There are many factors making the rounds for Mr Bakare as the one who the bill fits. Firstly, modesty and fairness dictates that, the vice-president should take over from his predecessor. And again, the pastor has the decency, morality, and trustworthiness both from religionist, non-religionists, and sundries. He more so, commands goodwill from all niches of peoples.

Furthermore, Bakare has been very pivotal in quelling the political, socio and religious unrests which attended late president Yaradua’s absence from statecraft and empowering of Jonathan as president. Mr Rufai and other OBJ’s close-knit should take the responsibilities for that power vacuum and power struggle because. They donated late Yaradua to us unsolicited.

Besides that, Pastor Bakare wouldn’t steal our monies or peddle influence as Rufai would allocate Abuja lands at personal whims. Mr Bakare is very tolerant and pro-choice. He had once said that he’d not bother whether his children choose to become Muslims, freethinkers or whatever.

Rufai on the other hand, is guy who is jockeying for power for self-lust. He had out of personal prodding, confessed how they rigged Yar’Adua to office. And he did such because; the late president sidelined him after they boxed him to office via backdoor underhand. Mr Rufai had expected the late president Yaradua to grease his elbow or appoint him in to office or both. But the dead president scorned him with ice cold red-card. So Rufia went gaga aiming back with whatever could damage the bygone leader. Mr EL-Rufai is a hard sell and therefore, unmarketable in the nearest future as would-be presidential candidate of CPC. Buhari has raised the bar so much for CPC that anything less, would be disastrous for them as time moves on.

El-Rufai had on some Nigerian Media, refuted the gist making the rounds that he is gunning to be president under CPC come 2015. But as as you all know, most parents would withdraw their kids from school if they learnt that Mr Rufai is the teacher teaching Moral and Ethics in that school. He is not the genuine McCoy we’re looking for in 2015, considering his misbehaviour during OBJ’s era. Mr Rufai peddled influence, sold government lands in Abuja to adults and toddlers alike at personal say-so without being shamefaced at all. He disobeyed court orders at will on many occasions. Mr Rufai was an outlaw and law upon himself during that ill era of OBJ.

Those supporting Mr Rufai hinged his financial support for CPC as his major for qualifying. If money is core to making people electable in election, Hilary Clinton and McCain could’ve floored Obama in the last USA presidential election. It’s on record nowadays that, what takes precedence in elections is moral decency of contestants. Buhari’s uprightness is what gave CPC the lustre it had in 2011. Therefore, CPC if they want to stay afloat in future political scramble, should make hay to replace Buhari with someone with rock solid moral character. Money wouldn’t do that for them. Nigerians are looking for leaders with socio-centric behaviour and the gut of steel.

CPC would shoot itself on the foot this time. Were they to dwell on the primitive inclination of PDP zoning to choose Rufai from North. After all said and done, the most pressing question still remains this: would Buhari who is unknown to be a double-speaker agrees to eat his words and re-contest in 2015? For now, all progress in the CPC and the solidity of 2015 presidential election depends of Buhari.
