The Senators, including Babafemi Ojudu and Oluremi Tinubu, were on their way
to Abuja by road when they ran into the rampaging youths who stopped them and
vandalized their cars. As the rallies entered the 3rd day, all flights remained grounded.
In the absence of rail travel, going by road was the only option for the Senators, (who
were traveling from Lagos.)
Mr. Ojudu, a former journalist, told SaharaReporters he had never seen such an
angry crowd in his life, as they refused to listen to entreaties from them despite their
introductions.
He said that Nigeria was experiencing a revolution and that if nothing was done,
something “drastic” could happen.
The four Senators, finding Ibadan impregnable, returned to Lagos to await the end of
strikes.
Last Sunday, the House of Representatives defied the ruling party and resolved that Mr.
Goodluck Jonathan should change his mind and return the price of fuel to N65.00
The Senate, on the other hand, has not taken any meaningful action, with some
members saying only that they would “speak” to Mr. Jonathan. Last night Jonathan reportedly rejected a proposal by Senator Mark to postpone the date of withdrawal of petrol subsidy till April 2012.
