Nigeria: Things Fall Apart

January 22, 2012

“Individuals derive strength from their society, and societies derive strength from the individuals who belong to them” – Things Fall Apart

With the recent happenings in Nigeria, what strength would individual derive from the country? What strength would innocent citizens derive from an insensitive government? What strength would an angry unemployed graduate derive from a clueless administration?

I am writing this piece with heavy heart and bitterness running through my spine; how can we be having coordinated bomb blast in different locations across the country and nothing has happened? We keep recording the tolls of death in hundreds yet, our government cannot provide solution.

The president and the commander in chief of the armed force was busy writing and sending condolences yet hundreds of innocent Nigerians are dying.

It beats my imagination that Nigeria a country of over fifty years cannot provide adequate security and protection of lives and properties for her citizens. Security operatives’ offices were attacked and bombed on several occasion and our President was silent.

The government of Goodluck Jonathan appears to be nothing but a toothless bulldog. The sovereignty of Nigeria is threatened and cannot be guaranteed due to the recent confirmation from the government quarters that the attacks were carried out by Chadians and some neighboring countries nationals who entered Nigeria through connivance with bad citizens of this country.

We have realized that the Boko Haram sect is sponsored by high profiled people in Nigeria and they are making use of young ignorant and unemployed youth to perpetrate their evil agenda.
Recently, Kabiru Sokoto the perpetrator of the Xmas bombing of St. Theresa’s Chatholic Church, Mandala, Niger State was arrested and handed over to a Police Commissioner (who also has a terrorist background) in person of Zakari Biu who later announced that the suspect has escaped. The antecedents of Biu during the days of Abacha when he masterminded many state sponsored killings of NADECO members and bombed diffrent locations including the killing of journalist.

Many deaths were linked to him, notably those of Bagauda Kaltho, a journalist working for TheNEWS magazine, and Dr. Sola Omatsola, former Chief Security Officer of Murtala Muhammed International Airport. They were both accused of being agents of the anti-Abacha National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).

It will interest you to know that Zakari Biu was dismissed from the police years after Abacha’s death and was controversially reinstated and promoted Commissioner of Police by the Police Service Commission (PSC). Now, Biu has been suspended and the Inspector general of Police, Hafis Ringim was given 24 hours to re-arrest the suspect (Kabiru Sokoto). The ultimate has since expired, yet the insensitive and inhuman government of Goodluck Jonathan has not done anything to it. Ringim still keeps his position as the IGP even when we had another coordinated bomb blast in Kano which claimed over 170 lives of innocent Nigerians including a colleague in this pen profession. What gives us an impression that Kabiru Sokoto, Zakari Biu, Ali Ndume and Hafis Ringim are not Boko Haram? at least sources confirmed that they have links with the Vice President, Arc. Namadi Sambo.

To worsen the situation, Mr. Jonathan’s ultimatum to IGP came and went without anything happening. This cannot happen anywhere in the world. The President issue an ultimatum and went down the drain... Holy shit!

I think we should not sleep and face same direction because it could spell doom for this country, Jonathan deploy soldiers to the streets of Kano prior to this attack, may I now ask what is the effect? He has also deployed soldiers to the streets of Lagos now I pray nothing evil will befall us here.

I am not an apostle of doom but am trying to be realistic about the recent happenings in the country. I want to believe that the actions of Mr. President towards the security matter in Nigeria now clearly depict that of a man that lacks focus, vision and wisdom to direct the affairs of this nation.

Yesterday night it was reported that there was a twin bomb blast in the home state of the President and just this morning we have recorded another bomb blast in Bauchi Township in Bauchi State of Nigeria.

Why is this happening? Why are we in this mess? Does the President know that no investor will invest in an environment where peace is disserted? May be he needs to know that Nigeria is under fire and he needs to resign if he doesn’t know how to approach it before this eventually falls apart totally.

I want the President to know that with what happened in his state yesterday night, he cannot guarantee security in his backyard at Bayelsa and once the bombing thing has entered the south; they will be targeting two places. The first place could be Lagos (God forbid) which is the commercial hub of the country and the seat of power which is the Aso Villa to put an end to Goodluck himself.

Although, Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart was brave, brilliant, powerful ended is life in a disastrous way. I pray that the most educated President we ever produce does not end his administration and life in a disastrous manner. I pray that things don’t fall apart for him.
