The deciding goal was scored by midfielder Stophira Sunzu on the Zambian side.

The Zambian team composed mostly of local football players defeated tournament favorite Cote d'ivoire which boasts of inventive Chelsea player Didier Drogba. Drogba  missed a penalty kick at the 70th minute and his teammate Gervais Yao Kouassihas missed his chance during the final penalty kicks enabling Sunzu to hit home a deciding kick.

Zambia was hailed by soccer fans as the underdog that worked for its victory. The Zambian team lifted the prestigious prize after defeating a lot of African giants to berth at the finals.

Today's win took place in Libreville, Gabon, where 18 players of the Zambian national team perished in a plane crash in 1993.

The Nigerian national team did not qualify to play in the competition after unimpressive showing in the qualifying series.
