The suspension, which is indefinite, also extends to Eunice Kalu, the ex-governor’s mother, as well as his brother, Mascot Kalu.

Mr. Onuoha disclosed this on Thursday in Umuahia after a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC), saying that “those suspended were observed to be doing everything within their power to destabilize the party.”

He said the three members were alleged to have brought thugs into the party’s office with the aim of disrupting a meeting of the top 14 members of the SWC and that they had been inciting some members.

The party chairman warned any of the suspended members who have party property in their possession to return them within 24 hours of receiving their letters of suspension.

Onuoha noted that the suspension of the Kalu brothers and their mother who was the leader of the party does not mean the end of the party as “no single individual can own a party and their indefinite suspension will serve as a deterrent to others who may want to toe their footsteps.”

He noted that the suspended members were called upon on several occasion to mend their ways, but to no avail, and refuted the claim that some people including members of the state government, had prevailed upon the party to take the discipline action.  He said the party was determined to instill sanity into the ranks and that there was no external influence over what was being done.

Prior to his suspension, Kalu was the Chairman of the PPA Board of Trustees.  He was also a candidate for President in the April 2007 general election.
