Abdulrashid Maina: A Despicable Lowlife! By Victor Olapojoye

March 11, 2012

I just had to write this. If not, I probably will never forgive myself. For those who don’t know who Abdulrashid Maina is, he was appointed by President Jonathan as the Chairman of the Pension Recovery Task Team. The taskforce was set up to sort out all the mess regarding non-payment of pensions to retirees. But, what did this lowlife scum do? He took advantage of that position to enrich himself and his cronies! This is exactly why I referred to him as a despicable lowlife. In fact, this guy is not worthy of being called a human being. Some may ask, what is my own in this?

I just had to write this. If not, I probably will never forgive myself. For those who don’t know who Abdulrashid Maina is, he was appointed by President Jonathan as the Chairman of the Pension Recovery Task Team. He took advantage of that position to enrich himself and his cronies! This is exactly why I referred to him as a despicable lowlife. In fact, this guy is not worthy of being called a human being. Some may ask, what is my own in this?

First, my father who turned 82 on March 6th, 2012, retired from the civil service in 1984. As I write this piece, he is being owed over 120 months (10 years) of his pension! The last time he got a pension payment was ten years ago! Now I ask the question. What if this was his only source of income? The Nigerian Government represented by ANIMALS like Abdulrashid Maina obviously expected him to die like a chicken, and don’t, for one second, think it is not happening. Thousands, if not tens of thousands of old and frail retirees, including military and police pensioners die like chickens every year, some literarily at the doorsteps of the Pensions Office. My father has gone through at least 20 verification exercises in the last 5 years. During each verification exercise, BASTARDS, who call themselves civil servants have actually asked to be bribed before they can conduct the verification. This is the civil service that Nigerians expect to deliver.

The irony of the whole situation is that it is only those civil servants of years gone by who actually served their country without enriching themselves with public funds that really need their pensions. The once who stole public funds, like this BASTARD Maina, don’t need the pension, because they have already stolen enough public funds to assure themselves of a nice retirement, with or without their pensions.

I have often thought may be the reason Nigeria has never seen happiness is simple. These pensioners and their families wake everyday raining curses on Nigeria. A country that has consistently told them they their service was in vain and they don’t deserve their pensions. Having spent their youthful years serving an ungrateful country, they end up as destitutes on the street.

Here are some of the things that this lowlife did. He spent N240 million to conduct biometric exercise for less than 20 retirees overseas! Spent N12.5 million on contracts for the purchase of biometric computers (whatever happened to the equipment owned by INEC ). He also engaged some EFCC and ICPC officials who were on his payroll to intimidate anybody that opposed him, in addition to unilaterally transferring N8bn, N3bn, and N10bn from the Police Pension account to Fidelity Bank, UBA and First Bank, respectively.

Come to think of it, after listening to this scumbag Maina talk about his “accomplishments” in December 2011, I was moved to almost write about him as being my man of the year. I guess I can conveniently say now that Abdulrashid Maina is the Worst Person in the World!

The final point I want to make is why are Nigerian banks continuously used by corrupt public officials to launder stolen public funds? Examples of these abound. When will the CEO of Fidelity Bank, UBA and First Bank go to prison for money laundering and economic sabotage? Mallam Sanusi and Arunma Oteh! When?
