Spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, Musa Magaji Majiya, has just told us  that no one was killed in this morning's attack on the Mandawari Police station.

At about 7.45 this morning, gunmen believed to be members of the extremist Boko Haram sect, had opened fire on the station and other areas of Gwale local government area of Kano State.

Residents said the gunfire started at the break of dawn and was on as at 9 a.m when Premium Times broke the story.

But Mr. Majiya said a while ago that no one was killed in the attack.

He explained that the attackers arrived on motorcycles, while others alighted from a Toyota bus and immediately started shooting sporadically at the station, but that officers on duty returned fire and were able to repel the attack.

"Officers on duty were alert and they successfully repelled that attacks, and the hoodlums ran into the neighbourhood," Mr. Majiya further said.

He said police officers were on the trail of the attackers in the nearby neighbourhood they fled to but that so far no one had been arrested.
