Again, Suspected Boko Haram Militants Kill Police In Rigasa, Kaduna

Several sources have told SaharaReporters that suspected Boko Haram militants last night gunned down a policeman in the Rigasa suburb of Kaduna.

The victim, whose name was given as Balarabe Usman, was described as an orderly to a senior judge in the Kaduna State judiciary. One source said the killed officer was an orderly to the Grand Khadi of Kaduna State, the topmost jurist in the sharia judicial system.

The killing of Mr. Usman brings to 15 the number of policemen killed this year alone. Besides, other paramilitary security agents in the area have also lost their lives.

A source told SaharaReporters that Mr. Usman’s assailants trailed him from an unknown location and then shot him in the Rigasa area. Another source said the slain officer was in company of his son who narrowly escaped with wounds and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

The killing came barely 48 hours after a bomb explosion that claimed the lives of several victims at the Kaduna offices of Thisday newspaper.

SaharaReporters was unable to reach Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar, for official confirmation of the shooting death of Mr. Usman. However, a police at the Rigasa divisional police headquarters confirmed the killing. The officer asked to remain anonymous.

“Our men are all worried,” said the officer. “It means we and other security agents must launch an aggressive manhunt for the suspected sect that is masterminding the onslaught against police,” he added.

Speaking in a tone of exasperation, the officer added, “Look it is not rumors. They [Boko Haram militants] are here and operating from here to other targets, but everything is up to our command and the military.”

Last week, one Yusuf Arrigasiyyu, a resident of Rigasa, issued a mischievous statement that sought to refute a report in SaharaReporters that the Rigasa area was emerging as one of the hotbeds of Boko Haram militancy in Northern Nigeria.
