The cold-blooded murder this evening of the policeman brought to some 15 officers and other paramilitary that have fallen to bandits' bullets recently.
A military source who was part of the reinforcement to Rigasa said the traditional ruler, Sarkin Arewa Rigasa, Malam Yahaya, was shot along Danmadami Road in the area. The officer was followed and gunned down again by another set of gunmen who, after killing him, fled the scene without any interference by security agencies.
The situation has created panic among other traditional rulers who are said to be are fleeing the area.
Local traditional rulers, according to Sahara's sources, are suspected of aiding security agencies with identifying information about their movement in the community. This factor is said to be the cause of new warfare against the traditional institution.
Thousands of residents have also abandoned their homes for the fear of the unknown, as more armed soldiers and police men have been drafted to beef up security in the area.
