“There was a gun duel between the gunmen and the police who resisted their attack,” said the source, who sought anonymity. “The attackers killed a man who was passing by the police station as they tried to force their way in to the police station.” The source added that the armed men lobbed an explosive that burnt the police station.

SaharaReporters learnt that a reinforcement of armed police has been drafted to the area and neighboring villages. “The police are combing the area and looking for the possible hideouts of the men,” our source said.
Speaking to SaharaReporters by telephone, the Borno State Commissioner of Police Bala Hassan described how the police rebuffed the attack. “Some of these gunmen launched an attack on us, and we resisted them heavily. They were carrying sophisticated weapons but Allah helped us as we triumphed over them,” he said.

Mr. Hassan also disclosed that a contingent of police and their detectives have been dispatched to several villages and towns to trail the attackers. He said the attackers came on foot, without any vehicle or motorcycle that they often used.
