But his appeal may be ignored by the governors.

The President was surprised that the governors, who were in Abuja to have a meeting with him on Saturday evening, refused to turn up for the book launch, which was done to celebrate Tukur’s 77 birthday.

Of the the 23 PDP governors, on three actually showed up for Tukur’s birthday party, which was attended by President Jonathan.  The governors that were in attendance were Patrick Yakowa(Kaduna) Alhaji Isa Yuguda (Bauchi) and Chief Theodore Orji (Abia).

Despite that, and to the surprise of Mr. Jonathan, a majority of the governors who had stayed away from the book launch turned out for the evening meeting with him.

Among those who only turned up for the meeting were Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Danbaba Suntai (Taraba) and Godswill Akpabio(Akwa Ibom).

When the President was greeting them at the Villa, he told them one after the other: “You can’t escape o. You are not free. You must donate to the book launch.”

Rather than give him any commitment, the governors just laughed loudly.  Our correspondent gathered that the governors have vowed not to donate any money to their party’s chairman, who has grown increasingly unpopular.
