Oduah’s Chariots Of Fire By Dr. Soyombo Ayomikun

October 30, 2013

Two chariots with steely flesh
Impenetrable to bullets seeking to kill
Costing naira almost innumerable
Chariots to carry one mortal as we are
Perhaps to heaven aloud I wonder
In a land where daily countless to hunger yield their ghosts

Two chariots with steely flesh
Impenetrable to bullets seeking to kill
Costing naira almost innumerable
Chariots to carry one mortal as we are
Perhaps to heaven aloud I wonder
In a land where daily countless to hunger yield their ghosts

Saddening how for greed we jettison compassion
How in our dark abattoirs we murder integrity
We keep longing for more and more
Of wealth that simply isn't different from the winds
That in a split-second is sealed by clasped hands
And then even before it's really trapped sneaks away smiling

Our aviation ministry has been an alley of sorrows
Time & again crushing destinies from crashes
Filled with birds that keep falling off the skies
For lack of strength & curable diseases
While those that should be in charge keep scampering around
To get chariots resistant to bullets & maybe death

We are tired of wealth-diggers with ruined consciences
Wolves dressed as kings and queens
Leaders are what we are demanding for not killers
That keep gulping our blood while poverty drains our spirits
Apparels of selflessness & sacrifices is what we want to see
When our leaders emerge from their castles of power

I see that day though distant & seemingly out of reach
When as a nation we will gather to mourn corruption & greed
When we will christen our states 'hope' and 'peace'
When trust & integrity will again baptize our souls
I see that day when bloodshed will become a forgotten tale
When we will no longer witness the plane crash with the living & coffin
