Jega Is At It Again! - CNPP

December 10, 2013

‘Let me use this opportunity to categorically affirm that while our Register of Voters is not perfect, it has requisite integrity and it compares favourably with any Register of Voters on our continent. It is certainly not as bad as some are strenuously trying to make it appear’…Professor Attahiru Jega.

Conference of Nigerian Political Parties {CNPP} is outraged that Professor Attahiru Jega is at it again, this time at the quarterly meeting with political parties in Abuja, instead of honourably apologizing for the flawed, mangled and dubious Voters’ Register he used to conduct the Anambra State Governorship election; heaped insult on the sensibilities of Nigerians.

CNPP had thought that after wasting over N80 billion in the Voters’ Registration exercise Professor Jega should be apologetic, remorseful, introspective and circumspect for under performing and producing less than perfect Register of Voters.

Rather he climbed the high horse and had the temerity to affirm and rationalize in his own admission that a less than perfect document has requisite integrity and compares favourably with any Register of Voters on our continent.

Which African country is he comparing our mangled Voters’ Register with?  Certainly, we hope the eminent professor must not in his delusion be comparing our mangled Voters’ Register with that of Ghana, Senegal, Benin, Ruanda, South Africa and other beacons of democracy in Africa?

We are at a loss when people like Professor Jega will come to the reality that either a vital document like Voters’ Register is clean or tainted? Secondly, that Africa is not waiting for Nigeria to wake up from its deep slumber

In sum, we still maintain our position that Professor Jega must go to save our democracy and our dear country from the predictions of dooms sayers; for he cannot conduct a credible 2015 general elections.
