Suicide Bomber Hits Maiduguri 24 Hours After Former Governor Sherrif Was Stoned By Angry Residents

Barely 24 hours after former governor of Borno State, Modu Ali Sheriff was stoned by angry residents of Maiduguri in his first visit in eleven years; a suicide bomber this afternoon struck killing at least 30 people.

 Mr. Sheriff now an All people's Progressives (APC) leader has been blamed for the Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

Several others  sustained serious injuries and scores of vehicles were burnt following the attack. A military officer in Maiduguri who was soldiers that inspected the scene told SaharaReporters through a telephone call.

The source said the suspected suicide bomber carried out the attack in a commercial area close to popular Kasuwan Jagwal, around the Post Office area of Maiduguri.

The military officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity said soldiers have barricaded all routes leading to the scene and carrying checks on all motorists.

Spokesman of 7th Division, Nigerian Army confirmed the attack, but said they are still taking stock of casualties caused by the suicide bombing .
