Ebenezer Alabi said Tukur’s resignation was a sacrifice needed for the benefit and progress of the party especially now the 2015 election is drawing nearer.

"The resignation," he said, "will lessen aggrieved members who were on a mission the leave the party for opposition ones, and now they will stay and strategize."

Alabi said the decision was a welcome development embraced by ninety percent of party members especially those who attended the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja called by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The State Chairman refused to comment on whether President Jonathan or other party executives had forced the resignation.

He said that the party would pick and inaugurate Tukur’s successor on Monday during its Emergency NEC meeting.
