Senator Isaiah Balat Is Dead

Senator Isaiah Balat, a former Minister of State for Works and Housing during the first term of President Olusegun Obasanjo, has died.

A source who wished to remain anonymous confirmed the transition of Balat, who served as a Senator from 2003 to 2007, but was until his death an aide for Special Duties to Vice President Namadi Sambo.  He was also a top campaigner for President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 elections.

Balat, 62, was born in Gora, a village in Zangon Kataf local government Area of Kaduna State.

After he lost his mother as an infant, he was raised by his grandmother until he was old enough to fend for himself.  He later left the village and moved to the city to make a living.

After his primary and post-primary education, he attended a programme in Marketing at the Kaduna Polytechnic between 1976 and 1978.  Later he attended the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School and the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies at Oxford, United Kingdom.
