Although most Senators had spoken with indignation and outrage over the tragic incident of last Saturday that led to the death of twenty young Nigerians, the Senate could only agree on a resolution calling for a minute silence and investigation of the incident.
Senator Babafemi Ojudu who felt that this was not enough, rose up to propose an additional resolution, asking that the Minister and the Immigration boss be suspended pending the outcome of the proposed investigation into the matter.
This was followed by shouts of no by the PDP Senators who were clearly opposed to such a move. When the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu who presided over the day's affairs called for a vote over Ojudu’s resolution, the voices of the majority PDP members drowned out those in support of it.
Earlier Ojudu had demanded that the identity of those behind the consulting company that organized the aptitude test be revealed and the role of the Minister of Interior in it be made public.
At the end of Plenary the senate had directed that the Committee on Interior conducts a public investigation on the tragedy within a week and also asked the Federal Government to come out with a Marshal Plan about employment matters.
