Boko Haram Attacks; No More Excuses - CDRP

April 17, 2014

A leading human rights group in Nigeria, the Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People(CDRP) has  condemned in strongest term the recent bombing and kidnapping of innocent citizens and students whose only offence is being a citizen of a defenseless Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A leading human rights group in Nigeria, the Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People(CDRP) has  condemned in strongest term the recent bombing and kidnapping of innocent citizens and students whose only offence is being a citizen of a defenseless Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the Acting National Coordinator of CDRP – Com. Waheed Saka, the group said that, it is disheartening that Boko Haram bombing and kidnapping has become a reoccurring issue like mathematical decimal point in recent times without any visible end in sight.

CDRP therefore challenged the Federal Government to give no more excuses but rather do a holistic counter – terrorism approach to nip this terror act in bud once and for all.

It would be recalled that the spate of bombing in Nigeria started during the regime of General Ibrahim Babangida when the then Editor of Newswatch Newspaper – Mr. Dele Giwa was gruesomely murdered through a parcel of bomb allegedly emanated from the government. Since then, bombing has become a regular instrument of attack against Nigeria people.

However, if neighboring countries have been un-co-operative to Nigeria counter-terrorism approach, the Federal Government should declare them enemy nations. The government should take a clue from the United States popular statement to the world after the September 11 attack that “In this particular time, United State will not see any nation as neutral, you either associate with us or we label you as enemy”.

CDRP urges the military to intensify more effort to rescue those innocent students from their captives and discourage further attempt to kidnap innocent school girls as we will not hesitate to report the government of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to International Criminal Court of Justice as a leader encouraging genocide.
