Committee for the Future of Nigeria (CFFN) Supports #BringBackOurGirls Rally In Chicago on Saturday May 10th, 2014

For the last decade, Nigeria has battled with the menace of Boko Haram, a terrorist group that is affiliated with Al-Qaeda. The group has been responsible for a large number of attacks that have killed hundreds and maimed thousands. The recent abduction of about three hundred young female students from the City of Chibok has opened a new and more dastardly front in Boko Haram’s assault on the Nigerian nation. The image of hundreds of girls, abducted while they prepared for examinations, and held against their will by a band of psychopaths who have declared that they will force them into marriage or sell them as slaves is an assault to common decency and a jolt to the conscience of the world.

In a part of the world where gender based inequality is rife and females continue to lag males in educational and economic opportunities, the events at Chibok risk turning back the painstaking gains that have been made over the last decade in Nigeria. Since the assault on Chibok, Boko Haram has continued its reign of terror, abducting over ten more girls, and killing over three hundred people at a crowded market in Gamboru Ngala, in North Eastern Nigeria.

The Nigerian government has been unable to contain this insurgency. The recent offers of help to find and rescue the Chibok girls by major world governments are welcomed by all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria. We thank the world for standing with us, for joining us in trying to Bring Back Our Girls. Nigeria will continue to need the support of the international community.

We urge all supporters of the #BringBackOurGirls cause to join us at a rally in Chicago on Saturday May 10th 2014, starting at 12 noon at the Daley Plaza.  For more details please visit the events page at #BringBackOurGirls - Chicago Rally
