War Against Terror: Police Top Brass In An Emergency Meeting, Restrategizes On Ways To Curb Violent Crimes

Concerned by the incessant terror attacks, herdsmen/farmers clashes in some parts of the country as well as other forms of crimes and criminality – kidnappings, abductions trans-border banditry, proliferation of arms and ammunition – taking place in the country, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, psc convened an emergency meeting with the top echelon of the Police Force, today July 3rd, 2014 at the Force Headquarters Abuja to appraise the overall security situation and the way forward.

While urging the zonal AIGs and the Command CPs to evolve new intelligence gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies customized to suit their respective local challenges, the IGP charged the senior officers to improve on their surveillance network and high police visibility across the country and to commence early preparations for the 2015 general elections by conducting adequate threat analysis and intensifying capacity building for electoral policing best practices.

The IGP reminded the Police top brass of the immense trust and confidence reposed in them by the public and charged them to bring their professionalism, skills and experience to bear in the discharge of this onerous but statutory mandate of solving crimes, maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property and ridding the country free of terror, amongst others. The IGP reiterated that the country is passing through one of its most trying moments as a nation and therefore demands of its officers, utmost loyalty and commitment to duty.

The IGP assured the citizenry of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to their well being, noting  that the Forces will continually do their best possible towards eliminating all threats to internal security of the nation.
