Activists gather for the memorial of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola the acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993, elections in Nigeria who died mysteriously on July 7 1998 while in detention and in the presence of American government official who traveled to Nigeria to pressure him to renounce his mandate. Abiola died a few minutes after American delegate Susan Rice served him a cup of tea.
